Earthworks
Working either as a contractor, or providing complete management of earthworks, SWG can design, schedule, monitor and validate earthwork schemes. Working closely with the laboratory and the consultancy teams, we specialise in working with contractors delivering the placement of engineered fill.

Our Geo-technicians are well trained and equipped to help with cross consultancy site work.

Earthworks

Working either as a contractor, or providing complete management of earthworks, SWG can design, schedule, monitor and validate earthwork schemes.

Working closely with the laboratory and the consultancy teams, we specialise in working with contractors delivering the placement of engineered fill. We can provide practical and concise advice on specifications and adjustments in working practices to be as efficient as possible while meeting the requirements set.

We have managed schemes from 500m3 to 1.5Mm3 in volume such as the CERC energy centre, Par, Cornwall and Westpark 26, Wellington, Somerset.

We area UKAS accredited for both our laboratory testing and in-situ testing, including plate bearing tests, CBR tests (both TRL and plate bearing methods) and density (sand replacement) amongst others.

Monitoring and Site Services

Our Geo-technicians are well trained and equipped to help with cross consultancy site work such as:

  • Ground gas and groundwater monitoring using a calibrated GA5000 gas analyser, MiniRae Photovoltaic Ionising Detector (PID with 10.6ev lamp) and Dipmeter

  • ‘Lightweight Deflectometer

  • Sampling

  • Permeability / soakaway testing to BRE365

  • Plate bearing tests*

  • Plate or large scale settlement tests

  • CBR tests (TRL DCP and Plate bearing methods to IAN 73/06 – HD25)*

  • Medium to long-term groundwater monitoring and ump test analysis using automatic in-situ groundwater level logging equipment (14No. In-Situ Inc. Rugged Troll data loggers)

  • Small and large scale ground resistance / resistivity surveys, with specific reference to renewable such as utility scale Solar PV and wind turbines

  • Basic surveying

  • Small and Large sand replacement density tests*

CBR & Plate Bearing

SWG is a UKAS accredited supplier for regular California Bearing Ratio (CBR) tests by either plate bearing or Transport Road Laboratory Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (TRL DCP) methods. We also provide UKAS accredited Plate bearing testing using 300, 450 and 600mm diameter plates. Applications for these types of test include Road Pavement design, formation and subgrade assessments, adoptable highways, mobile and tower crane stability and pile matt design to BRE470. If further advice is needed for any of these design aspects please get in touch.
